Mark. I will guarantee his woodworking skills will improve but he will not want to see another piece of mahogany for a long time when he's done.
You think you did a lot of screwing when you were younger, wait until you start planking
Save all your scrap mahogany because you will need those when you start cutting out the plugs.
Get yourself a good quality plug cutter and a matching hole drill.

Thanks Cal. Not to toot my own horn but my skills are pretty good after 25+ year but they can only get better! LOL Yeah planned on cutting bungs out of the old planks. I have to make sure the plug cutters my dad had were good ones or not. Any suggestions?

Bob, when I did my bungs I bought two different size cutters with matching hole drills. I got them at a Woodworkers Depot, specialize in quality tools for wood. Can't remember how much I paid but after thousands of uses they are still sharp as new. I did have to keep replacing the small drill bits for the hole makers but they are a standard size that can be picked up at any hardware store. I kept breaking them off when I started to get cocky.
I used my bench top drill press with the cutter, punch out what you can from the scrap wood and then use a screwdriver to snap them out.

Well got some more work done. I got the intermediate frames out and the blanks cut. The old frames look like bananas, as well as the keel. I had to pipe clamp the keel/frame down to the frame supports to get it flat from the transom to almost frame number 5. It should be to about frame 4 1/2 so the keel will have to come off while I do all the frames and use a flat 2" square pipe I have to flatten it from transom to frame 4 1/2.

Now to get those bad boys cut out of the blanks.

Great progress Bob. Almost can smell the wood from here. Doesn't look like much room to move around in the work area. Tight quarters.

Thanks Cal. Yeah it's a little tight, but there's more room when i pull the cradle out. I plan on putting her on the cradle once flipped so I can mover her in and out easily.

Well finally got the 80 hp running so I was able to get back to the Century. I got all the intermediate frames cut and fitted. Now I just have to predrill them for the 5200 assembly and CPES. I'll drill and CPES tomorrow.

Only had to remake two and one support. LOL Good thing I had some extra White Oak laying around. ;)

Well I haven't been sitting on my butt, I've actually been working on the boat. The intermediate frames are 5200'd in. Main frames 2 and 3 have their 2nd coat of CPES drying and I should be able to 5200 them in tomorrow. Then on to frames 4 and 5. Slow and steady wins the race. lol

Wow, Bob, I just spent the last hour looking through your thread...awesome work! You have the patience of Job. I'm pretty sure that anyone can fiberglass, but it takes a true craftsman to work with wood.

Frames 4 and 5 are in and it turned out to be an early Christmas:

All the stuff I needed for a good deal compliments of two fine Century Boat Club folks. Now unfortunately everything is on hold for a few days because apparently thumbs and 4tpi bandsaw blades don't get along!

30 years of woodworking and this is my first major issue. I guess it was bound to happen eventually. No it didn't involve alcohol. Thou shalt NOT operate power tools and drink alcohol, ever! 6 stitches, looks like Frankenthumb, guess I should have done it Thursday! lol

Well I guess I officially have blood and sweat into this project, now to just keep out the tears! ;)

Bob, something about those Centurys that like fingers. I too did a run to the emergency room for 8 stitches in the left index finger. Band saw while cutting mahogany trim. Keep it clean for a few days.

Bob, hope your thumb heals and leaves you with no permanent damage or effects. Love that hardware as it looks familiar!
Are you replacing all of the hull and deck planking? If so, make sure you make your plugs out of the planks you are using as replacements so you have uniform color. It is a very rewarding experience to restore and rebuild a boat. Not for the faint of heart!
You are doing a fine job this far, keep up the good work!

LOL thanks again for hooking me up Royce. Yeah it has basically turned into a pattern boat! :( Lots of work but it's keeping me out of trouble. ;) Thanks for the tip, several kind folks have reminded me of that. There's nothing worse than odd colored plugs, unless that's the look you're going for, which I'm not. Just looks wrong, just my opnion. Still need to find the floor shifter, have one lying around?

Thanks, that's what I was shooting for! Thumb is actually working ok so got some more done on the 6&7 frames today, hope to get them completed and first coat of CPES on them tomorrow. Then get number 8 done also. That one is the solid one piece like the last frame. Still have to do the number one long frame.

well it's been a little tough with the bad thumb but all the frames are in but number 8 1/2. I need to get a bigger board than the one I bought.

The keel bed routing jig is in and ready to go.

WOW!
Lookin' better every day. Nice job. Have you figured how you're going to cut the battens in or are you going with a CC bottom? For my battens I clamped a board to the frame and used my router set to the right depth, 5200 and brass screws. Went pretty smooth.

Thanks Cal. Yeah planned on the board and router method. Still have quite a ways to go though. Once I rout the keel bed I can set in the old one, route the frames to correct height then drop in the new keel. Then of course route the new keel, then to the chines. Probably won't do all that until I get the upper frames done.

Bob, just saw your Century, great pic's. From what I know that looks like the correct windsheild brackets. I have an original dash panel from a 1955 resorter let me know if you have not found one.

Junkman, thanks I do have the one that came out. It wasn't correct in that they went with a Mahogany dash vice the plywood upholstery covered one. I should be able to use it as a pattern.
