Sorry haven't posted in a while but haven't been sitting on my a$$. Here's how you convert your trailer to a flat bed. Here's the before pics'

Here's the progress.

Notches for the supports that are bolted on the trailer.

Now the rest.

I forgot to take one with the hold downs bolted on but I think you get the idea. The decked shot is before the hold downs I just left it for last since I didn't have the other pic.

Here's what it looks like when you pic up your Mahogany and it's on the trailer.

Yeah I know most of the weight is on the front axle but I was only driving two hours so I wasn't that worried about it.

This is what it looks like unwrapped.

Problem is it wasn't all there! They forgot to give me the 5/4 covering board blanks because they were not by the milled stack. I didn't think to ask , just figured it was all under the wrap. No biggie, one call and it's being delivered on Monday! These guys were great would use them again in a heart beat.

Beautimous. Are they all resawn? When I picked up my mahogany the planks were 2" thick and then I had to have them all resawn. Getting closer to the glue and screw.

Well funny story. I decided to not go with the 6/4 since it would be a pain in the a$$ to resaw a 7'-10' wide 16' board on my 14" bandsaw so I went with 4/4, however they didn't have enough 4/4. I had to buy 5/4 but he milled it down to 3/4 at no charge! He said he would take it down to 5/8" but I was afraid if any of it had tear out it would end up less than 1/2" so we decided 3/4" and I could walk it down form there on my planer. Love that place great to work with

I got addicted to the smell of fresh cut Mahogany in '79 building my first boat in high school. I swear I could smell it reading this thread. Enjoy working your master craftsmanship into your final work of art. Thanks for the pictures along the way!

Well back at it again, too many life things keep getting in the way. Well anyway, after 2 1/2 days of moving boards around and picking grain, I'm finally ready to start finish planning them to 1/2". Yeah I'm a little more anal than most I guess. I just hope it all blends like I want. I have another project in the works also. I'll post pics when I get all the parts and start.

Ok did some more to the boat mover but also got at the Resorter again finally. The Chine planks are finally fitted and drilled but I only have cold weather CPES formula so I had to order the warm weather formula before I can CPES them and 5200 them into place. Ill eb out of town most of the week so that will be next weekend.

Congats on landing the job. Making a move over the holidays? Gotta be lots of stress but looks like you have it under control.
Sounds like it will be awhile until you get settled in and back on the boat project. Are there any fresh water lakes around the area?

Sweet. Some day I hope to make that show... at least 2-5 years away from that bucket list item... some family stuff first. Be sure to post a picture or 2 if you go. Maybe when you finish your boat and put it in the show is when I should go?!

Holy crap has it been a year since I've posted!!!?!?? Sheesh, so I have been busy just haven't been posting so sorry! I know it probably doesn't look like much but the planks are coming along. Just steamed these two bow ones in since it's a multiple bend area, if I want them flat against the batten's, needed to get steamed. I'm hoping to get the full uppers done by January 22nd, have to have rotator cuff surgery on the right shoulder so won't get to do anything for 6 weeks. I'm not sure it's going to happen though, at least up to the second to the last row done anyway.

She's getting there slowly but surely. Still have to bed the planks down in 5200 then install all the screws and plugs.

Hey Bob, looks good to me. Progress is progress no matter how far.
Good luck on that rotator cuff. You'll be doing some serious therapy, Don't let it slip. The good Dr. Go knows, Start thinking of alternate methods while sitting on the porcelain throne. B)

Had my shoulder a year ago. Due to some other issues with bone grinding and cutting, I spent 8 weeks immobilized instead of usual 6. By the time my therapy got rolling, I built up too much scar tissue and developed frozen shoulder. Had to go back in and be put under for manipulation to free it up. YouTube both and that will motivate you to do as the doctors instruct and put in the hard work for therapy so you will be fine. That manipulation has to tear up that scar tissue. Reminded me of watching wrestling from the 70 s. If you do your therapy as they instruct, you won’t have to do what I did. I hadn’t properly used my bad shoulder with complete motion for so long, my bones grew together and had to be cut apart. It’s great having my shoulder working again! Good luck!

Thanks Cal! Wow Dr thanks for the insight. I've been doing pre-therapy to make sure there aren't any issues. Can't afford to be down longer than 6 weeks, well any weeks actually, but have no choice. lol

So I've bee busy, well trying to be busy. I graduated from official physical therapy yesterday now just home stuff till I see/hear from the Doc on the 28th to see if I can full blown back to normal. So to celebrate I bedded the first row of planks on. Took a lot longer than I thought but the new Astro pneumatic caulk gun is a huge help and was only $18 on Amazon. :) I actually destroyed my old Red Devil caulking gun trying to use the 5200, so I got the pneumatic and heated the tubes in boiling water for about 5 minutes, worked like a champ. On to row two tomorrow.

Glad the shoulder is back! Also a clever idea warming the 5200. I might use that idea one day. Looking good. No pressure, but if you finish by next March and take it to Lake Dora to show off in Florida, then maybe I could use that for an excuse to go next year. I haven’t been down there for 25 years, so that would be a treat. Keep the progress and pictures coming.

So the second row is on, not much different looking than the first. lol I do wish that 5200 went a little further, it's taking about 1 tube per plank more or less and that ain't cheap! lol

Thanks Cal slow and steady wins the race right? lol

Thanks Mark, I'd like to say I'll have it done by next March but with still only working on it mostly weekends, there's a crap load to still get done so I doubt I'll make it but hey it's something to shoot for. ;)

Maybe if you do a feature build article showing the benefits of 5200, maybe you could get a discount rate on a few cases of it for your endorsement? At least you know it will stay together if you hit an unexpected big wave.

Did that on my Sabre. Screws were redundant but they sure work good holding the boards in place for the 7 day set period. Flex Seal glued on a glass bottom boat, holds a dune buggy together even patches your gutters. Maybe a few tie wraps and duct tape to take the place of the screws. JUST KIDDING OF COURSE!

Ok it's been a while and I apologize for not posting. I really thought that once I moved to Florida I would have more time to work on the boat but new job has me working 10 hours a day so it's weekends only, mostly.
I actually have the sheer planks clamped in place but didn't take a pic yet.
I also made a bushing so I can use the new 24" forstner bit extenion so I can drill the shaft hole. But also founf out my strut is a shallow S and has a crack! Time for a new one which won't be cheap I'm sure.

Lookin' really good so far. Sounds like your plate is full, the Resorter is desert.
Can that strut be repaired? Thinking maybe you could go to a local weld shop and have a second opinion. Could be
ground out and braised. ? Even maybe a local prop shop that can do brass prop repairs. Just a thought.

Looking good. Progress is progress and even feels like the accomplishment is greater when you know you have less time. Keep inching along so each session there is less to do. My brother uses bent shafts as good cheater bars when needed. I would search the mighty web... who knows if there is an expert repair shop in Florida... you would think so. I had my v6 crank welded and repaired in 2 places from an expert in California for 350 bucks about 18 years ago... it is still running fine today... a new crank from the factory was going to be 2,400 bucks, so it was worth a try since my 16 year old outboard wasn’t worth 2,400 bucks. Good luck with that.., maybe post that question in the inboard section and see if someone knows of a shop... just a thought as 63 Sabres idea would have been my first call.

Thanks John!

Jan, yes I am using 5200. White for the bottom and black for the sides and covering boards. I'm doing a no soak bottom with 5200 and the battens, no inner plywood layer. There are different thoughts on this but the Miklos brothers have been doing it this way for over 40+ years with no issues so I figured I go this route. It keeps the weight down too since no ply, yeah I know it's not much but hey weight is weight. LOL

I have some experience with this...bad experience. When you 'glue" the planks to the framework and to each other with 5200, things go south when the wood swells. The 5200 doesn't give so the wood gives instead...buckles and splits. I would have installed as many planks as I could in one day, soaked the hell out of them and then wrapped everything in thin plastic to seal in the moisture. Repeat the following day. When the wood swells you get 5200 "squoze" out of the seams which you scrape off fair. It creates the slack necessary to allow the wood to swell again later and not split. I do wish you luck but my experience tells me that you might be in for several unpleasant surprises. Make sure you have a good bilge pump.
