heres a small trick to getting resin and cloth to fit perfect.
1st when you lay on the resin and cloth let it over hang a little,then when dry use a multitool with the half moon blade to trim of the excess,now i will put on a final coat of resin and then sand some more,and finish it off,with upholstery vinyl and the machine turned aluminum yinyl,at the place where the 2 meet i will polish a peice of aluminum ,hopefully like chrome to match the chrome above.john

Those little multi-tools really come in handy for lots of different things! Thanks for the tip, John. Ron's console is coming along nicely, I'm sure it's going to look great.

thanks bob and your right,lol,to do it right takes awhile and even then, nothing is perfect,but we can try to get close,lol.
hi mark,thank you and no problem,but after the cut is made i now need to put on a last coat of resin, and yeah one of the tools im going to use is the multitool for sanding. tomorrow or should i say today,ed and i are going to go look again at the fellas boats and stuff i saw last week,he has a nice running 59 ,35 hp golden jubilee with controls and a great looking ignition and plate with the gold medallion. im going to take pics to see if anyone needs something then i will put his number up so folks can contact him.john |

i got the face done after putting on another layer of cloth and resin,then sanding it as smooth as possible,i may redo it tomorrow ,its not as perfect as i would like,i also layed the white vinyl on top and the aluminum im polishing next to it so you can get an idea of what it will look like,i hope ya like it buddy,but be honest,,john

I LIKE IT...I LIKE IT.. would luv to do that piece under the customcraft logo to match, but i'm afraid that logo would break if ya tried to remove it.

Actually my original '57 CC emblem doesn't have the Buffalo 7 either.
I am going to have to paint her up a bit before I put it back on(btw it came off easy with its tiny little ss screws). Notice that stick-on vinyl in the pic....should I find a replacement after painting or maybe just leave it off? Did Custom Craft ever have any emblems on the hull...like maybe on or under the fins? |

bf, if it doesn't have the buffalo 7 n.y. it wasn't built at the buffalo plant.
i would replace that vinyl with the stuff john is using on my console. i'm sure he would send you a piece. cc plastic emblems were attached to the boats at different areas depending upon the model. mine are under the fins. ron

i just came in from putting vinyl on one side of the console and adding the polished aluminum strip,im waiting on the air conditioners to catch up now,lol,its too hot out there even with the door open.
im also waiting until it dries,before i do the other side. the pics of it in the boat are of the console just laying there,after i get the other side done i have to fiberglass in a base that it mounts too and rewire it all,little boat,big guy,loljohn

ron the console was finished late last night,and i glassed in a support for it.
i tried very gingerly to take off the cc emblem and it cracked,so i took one off of my boat,im sorry it broke,so since it did i took off the bottom trim what a job,and cleaned the dash so i can put on the new vinyl. i will buy you another cc emblem and paint it for you,i will put mine on for now with stainless screws,so you can change them out.ok now back out to work on it some more,see ya tommorrow buddy,john

thanks bob, it took a long time to go from rons drawing,and then make it all fit,i hope ron doesnt mind we didnt get everything done like his mirrors and wheel done,but i will do his mirrors(sanding and painting) then send hem to him.
and the wheel maybe he can send it during the off season,and i will finish it then,john

the console looks great john. the wheel? that was finished when i left. i'll bring the mirrors to maaco and have them bake it on. i'll ask frank if he can mount the mercontrol you gave me, or i'll glue a 2x4 just below the gunnel and fit it in there somehow. i know you spent a lot of time on the console so please don't feel bad that you didn't finish the other things. ron

thank you guys, i just got it mounted in place,it was a bit tricky to get it so its glassed and screwed to the floor but not the dash so the boat doesnt crack the dash because of flexing,but still keep it in place under the dash.got some of the wiring done,then finish up tomorrow,hopefully before ron gets here,lol.
im going to have to give the boat a bath,its a little dusty,lol,oh yeah i got the custom craft emblem off my boat and painted it white,i will then paint the lettering,and install it.john |

thanks all for the vote of confidence,they really keep me doing this kind of stuff even if i started over a week ago,lol.
its getting harder to do this stuff,im my body is getting a little broke down,lol. barnfinder i saw you need a piece of the stuff i used on rons boat how big is that area that you need it for i dont have alot left but i always share,free of charge lol.i can get more ,send me your address. ron crap and yeah you do need the same size,i have it fit tight so it didnt have to be mounted in it. its cut so close that it fits without the mounting bracket and will stay there,because it didnt have a mounting bracket,now im glad it didnt,lol,or we would have a hard time taking it out. i will wire it anyhow,that way just remember or take a pic of the back it will help you remember which wire goes to what terminal .john |
