Jan, ditto what Bob said. Dontcha just love cleaning and painting those little ribs? Surprised to see you with an eggbeater. Thought you would put in a blown small block.

Naturally, the Lyman isn't mine. I envy you guys who have the time to work on your own boats. Lymans are framed like a canoe and doing the bulkheads and bilge is a real pain. The mahogany ply on the bow couldn't be salvaged well enough to stain and varnish so the owner opted for paint. The African mahogany rub rail was my idea. The paint is Z-Spar 99...my old school favorite.

I was wondering what grit paper you used on the interior lap strakes ?
On my lyman, I'm planning on using my trusty Harbor Freight multi-tool with a scraper blade,spray some adhesive on the bottom side of blade. Slap some sandpaper on it and sand under the ribs to get to the lap siding. I just don't want too agressive of paper.

We didn't sand the hull interior, per the owner. The interior bulkheads were thoroughly scraped, swept, vacuumed and then wiped with alcohol. After that, we applied two coats of Captain's varnish.

There is one thing that I'm going to do different on mine. It's the floor... Probably just me, BUT, it's the one thing I never liked about Lymans.
It's that cheesed up gray or tan plywood floor that they put in. You have the beautiful varnished curves of the ribs and lap strakes on the interior, and then someone at Lyman probably said ? ahhh.Just throw a piece of gray plywood in there. Ha-Ha-Ha !

If it were mine, I'd cover that plywood with battleship linoleum...looks great and wears like iron.
