TOPIC: Hello! New Boat!

I haven't been onboard here for a while but I recently aquired a cool old wooden cabin cruiser. She is a ClipperCraft BarClipper, and she is in amazing shape. I am planning on refurbishing her before putting her in the water as her bottom needs some attention. She was in a barn for almost 30 years, then in a garage for the last 5 years. The previous owner is a great guy who inherited her from his father, so I am keeping him updated on my progress. I just started the refurbishment, I'm planning on using some modern materials to seal the boat and protect the bottom without compromising the look and feel of a classic.

I found a ClipperCraft logo I'd like to add to the archives here but I was unable to upload it in the contact section.

Beautiful boat, and a classic elegant backward slant to the logo, when things like that were hand drawn for the initial design. Wonder if a "lefty" did it? We reproduce many old renderings for boats, cars and other old signs of logos and names. It was before computers for sure! Hope you post more pics as you go, especially the interior.

Here is a shot of her stern...her sister ships were double ended but this one has an I/O (the first Volvo ever an AQ100) so it looks like they just cut her stern flat.

I like how unique everything is. Watercraft around coastal areas have very "engineered" lines to serve their intended uses. I really like the diverse hulls and their many varied uses. (Freedom to get to the water is the common goal...and of course that they all float). No doubt this boat grabs attention wherever you go - nice find! I have lived a sheltered life on small protected waters, so this web-site lets me see the bigger world out there another reason I love this site (along with its many professionals and enthusiasts that have been such great help to me. This particular boat is actually a copy of a pretty famous design called a Bartender, designed by George Calkins. The BarClipper was only built for a short time as it was too similar to the Bartender and ClipperCraft was forced to stop production.

The history of the bartender is pretty amazing, they were so seaworthy that the coast guard used them as rescue boats in rough seas. Bartender history

Thanks for the link - great reading and history. Purpose built to handle conditions I haven't even been exposed to...all of my boats would have sank in their "test conditions".
