My Glasspar came with a nice 1960 Gator trailer- Though it had been painted, it was in pretty decent shape-

Even a bit of 'gator yellow' left here and there-

So, I stripped it all down to bare metal (Next time, I'll spring for sandblasting!!!)-

Then Primed it all-

Then sprayed on a shiney new coat of gator yellow, new tires, and new Gator logos-

Gotta love those chrome hubcaps!

I'm pretty happy with how it turned out- She's ready for another 50 years on the road!

Andrew,

Beautiful Job - makes mine shout at me to do the same :-)

As you stripped it and refinished, you didn't happen to come across the location of the serial or VIN numbers on the frame did you - I've been hunting without luck to find it so I can plate it...

any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

Matthew

Thanks, Matthew...

My serial number and model number were stamped onto an aluminum plate that was on the front of the trailer-

It was here-

Odds are you'll probably just find the two small holes from when it was rivited there...

You'll probably have to get a new VIN assigned by the state- I had to do that once when I lived in Ohio, they treated it like a 'homebuilt' trailer. Here in Tennessee, trailers aren't titled, licensed, or registered- So it's easy for us!!

Andrew, many thaks for the detailed pictures and information on where it should have been -and yes, correct... two small holes in the frame - homebuilt it is :-)

Thought you might find the atached original brochure sheet for your trailer of interest,

Again, thanks for the help,

Matthew

Thanks... Nice to see how it is 'supposed' to look. I guess I'm not that far off, although it looks like I have to repaint my winch :)

I saw those 'drop down' front parking wheels on some of the trailers at the show I was at this weekend, and like an idiot I didn't take a photo of them & how they worked! I'd love to replace the ugly modern galvanized one that I've got with one of those...

That's a nice looking trailer. Good job with it! My boat came on a 1960 Gator too! :)

Feel free to submit any original trailer literature to the Classic Boat Library (there's a Gator section that really could use expanding). Really good reference material for those with restoration projects.
