TOPIC: Balko problems

Nice original trailer but I really have to modify it to some sort of bunk style. When retrieving a boat it's a SOB to line up the exact keel on the tiny narrow rollers. When the wind is blowing it's near impossible. Any ideas?? The trailer is completely restored with new wheels, bearings, tires, LED lights and wiring.

Since I haven’t had the chance to modify my trailers yet, so you want me to bring my trailer parts box full of rollers and brackets for you to sift through? I know you will likely come up with some bunk ideas, but maybe you can also supplement that. You have given me some pretty good deals on boat stuff, so free parts to you for whatever works from that box. I hear what you are saying about alignment. Even on good days and 2 people, it can get tricky.

Is that the box I gave you at Kosh last year?
No rollers, maybe just those "U" shaped braces that hold the 2x4s if there were any in there. Nothing else. Can't remember what was all in there

I will look for anything Bunk bracket related and let you know. If I have some left over bunk carpet, would you want that? I think if I have it, it would be Blue from the trailer I had down at Kosh last year.

Lets hold off on everything for now. I'm running a few thoughts and ideas around my noggin. Problem is the Tomahawk has a relatively flat bottom with just the small keel so a traditional "V" type trailer center won't work. The trailer design does not lend itself to much modification with just that 2" pipe down the middle. Yesterday I had to weld the tongue wheel on the pipe because the traditional clamp for the tongue would twist and pivot resulting in #@$%&%%#@%. Might just weld some channel iron perpendicular to the center pipe about mid section and put 8' long bunk boards. I did the same with the trailer I had for my Century Sabre Woody. Just a thought.

I will give you some time to brew up idea. I figured you would probably want something added before Kosh anyway. Depending on how similar my Wilson hull may be to yours, I likely will do some close looking at your set up to get ideas.

I actually put a few hours in on the project Thursday. Did some "field engineering" and welded 1 1/4" square tube, angled to match those fins on the boat and now in the process of bolting it to the rear trailer cross member. I'll post some pics later. The whole idea is to get the hull centered at a choppy launch ramp.


UPDATE



Just have to do some paint touchup. The 4" pipe nipples welded to the fenders are for holding fiberglass rods that I insert so I can see where the trailer is headed while backing up.

Finished up the bracing and touch up paint. Calling this project done.

Monday/Tuesday weather should be good enough to try in at the launch ramp to see if she automatically centers itself....I hope.
