My Glasspar sits on a 1960 Alloy brand trailer. It has a swingarm/coil spring independent suspension. Given the weight of the boat and the miles traveled in 55 years, it's developing a negative camber on both sides (bottom of tire further out than top of tire). The axles are stub axles, fastened to the suspension with a large nut. I'm thinking about loosening the nuts and turning the stubs 180 degrees to create positive camber. Has anyone tried something like this? I'll bet those fasteners are pretty snug with rust.

Well I certainly thing it would be a good idea to take it apart. It you can't get it loose heat it witha torch. It will come. I would check to see that the trailing arms are not fatiuged and causing your camber. From the picture I can see that the coil spring is almost collapsed so that the suspension may not be working and if it is bottoming out this may have caused something to bend a little. Just something to think about.

Thanks for the replies. It could be either the stub axles or the trailing arms, very hard to tell visually. The coil springs are collapsed at the very bottom, but they're fairly tall and have a conical profile, and the top 60% is not collapsed so it's still got some boing. Once I get a 1-5/16 socket I think I'll try rotating the axles first. If the problem goes beyond that, I'll live with it.

Could be that as well. The bushings have grease fittings and I keep them lubed, but who knows if they got any grease in the past. I'm not a big fan of this Alloy trailer, the frame has a lot of torsion type flex, but it's a good vintage match for the Delmar. Pretty sure it's original to the boat.

The trailer under my Pipestone is built very smiler but has squire tube for the trailing arms no bushing in the pivot point. Put new pivot pins in and it helped the wheels are strait now.

I'll take a closer look at those pivots. Makes sense that the trailing arms/pivots would give before the stub axles would bend.
