TOPIC: HP size for a Dorsett Monterrey?

HP size for a Dorsett Monterrey? 5 years 5 months ago #140038

Hi All,
I just brought home the cutest boat ever, but with 2 toasted motors. It's a 16ft fiberglass Dorsett Monterrey - all the info I can find re. weight is ~800 lbs in some promo materials. Went and looked at a 50hp Merc today, but I'm not sure if it's going to be strong enough.
Any thoughts? I've seen the range of 50-85hp for these, but nothing definitive.
Would like to stay with similar vintage - easy to work on, but some upgrades wouldn't be terrible :)
Thanks in advance.

I think that boat had two 40 hp on that or it has two 35 hp. When Dorsett made the boats in the 1967-1970 they used one outboard motor 85 hp two 120 hp. send a photo. My Dorsett is a inboard outboard it maybe one of a kind. 17.5 feet. this motor is a ford Cortina lotus 98ci 80 hp. I have been trying to find out info on this for 4 month and just got this right info Dec 12th. good luck and do not stop looking.
