TOPIC: mercruiser trim fluid

mercruiser trim fluid 14 years 3 months ago #13059

Mercruiser first gen. I cant find a straight answer. I have seen to use motor oil or atf among other things. What do I put in it?

I use regular 30WT motor oil in mine and its works fine.

ATF works well too...only reason i dont use it anymore is because i have a slow leak at the connection to one of the rams...with the ATF, it dripped a drop about every couple minutes. ATF is pretty thin but with the 30WT oil, it almost doesnt leak at all.

Ive been told my multiple marine mechanics that pretty much any light-medium weight viscosity petroleum based fluids will work just fine in them(motor oil, ATF, hydraulic fluid, power steering fluid, etc).
