Has anyone ever restored a 14 ft GW Invader? I may go look at one and I'm curious how difficult the floors and transoms are to replace and how hard it is to split the hull and deck. Any input will be appreciated.

I have 2 10' invaders and an 8' SkiBird made by invader. They are not hard to restore as the stringers are few. The worst aspect of these boats is the balsa cores they used. Trust me, yours will be waterlogged under what appears to be dry fiberglass. I replaced the balsa cores with double layers of 1/4" marine ply heavily coated with epoxy and glassed in with epoxy and 7oz.cloth. Much stronger then original and the added weight is minimal. The strength added to the boat along with the stiffness in the hulls was very noticeable.
Splitting the hull is a piece of cake. Remove all rub rail screws and rail.
Gently pry around the edges with a flat bar/pry bar. You may have to go around a few times. Slowly and carefully pop it loose. Lift her off and start scratchin the fiberglass itchies...

Good Luck!!

It's on C/L in NY. No pics in the Ad. Thanks for the info. Not sure if I want to get into a core though. Guess I'll have to think about that one.

Paul, don't be afraid of of a core. Not much more to be done than replacing a few stringers/bulkheads and a new floor.

Do a search of U Tube Vids, check out Fiberglast.com for materials, hit Harbor Freight for a Multi Tool and 9MM Nitrile gloves, Walmart paint dept for a couple Haz Mat Tyvek suits.

Make him an offer taking into consideration the complete restore needed.

I say go for it and have a Classic Boat when you are done.

Paul. If you don't want it could you get it for me and keep it till I can drive the 650 or so miles to come get it?

I've been trying to figure out how the heck to get it but can't till I get my van out of storage.

You should get it, i'm going to start restoration of mine in the spring and we could help each other out! They are rare and it needs saved.

Here's some pics...

Sorry it took so long to get back to you. I haven't looked here in a while. Unfortunately it's 3 hours away from me and I don't have an available trailer right now. I was going to have to try to figure out where to get one. I think he'll go cheaper than 300.

I have seen one running an in-line 6. Up close it looked insane (well...sane for gear heads!)I believe I heard +70MPH.

I should have bought one 6 years ago with a 65/4 Merc. Never saw one before that...just tons of the smaller ones. It seems to walk the line between big and small. Somebody get it and work out the details later. Lots of help here.

I think 70 is believable. There used to be an Invader owners site where one of the owners if I remember correctly was claiming mid 70s with a V-4 115 Johnrude. If that's true they are freakishly fast and rival boats like Allison. It would be a fun boat to play with.
