TOPIC: Anybody Know What This Is?

During one of my walks I discovered this fiberglass boat sitting on some rural property near Kimberling City, MO (SW MO).

I had never seen this design before. There was no identification on the hull. I forgot my tape measure but it appears to be about 12 feet long and the motor mount is hung out beyond the transom. The bottom at the transom is a shallow vee for most of the width but flattens near the chines to form a hard chine. The rabbit decal on the right side appears to have been added by some owner as there is no matching decal on the left side.

The owners of the property have never been around when I was walking.

Is it worth saving?

Might be a Crutchfield....neat little boat anyway!

I checked the web for Crutchfield boats and all that came up was Crutchfield audio equipment. So we are still seeking a brand.

Back in the 80's Mercury had a little boat that looked a lot like that. I think they called it a Cougar Cub. I went to their racing facility at Oshkosh and ran one through their test course. It had a 35 HP outboard and would do about 40 mph. They were popular until the Jetski came a long.

Be careful if you do a google search on cougar cub. Put your browser on safe search. It also brings up a lot of porn sites.
Look on the transom for a Hull Identification Number. Should be in the upper right hand (from behind the boat) corner. The first three letters indicate who the manufacturer is and can be looked up on the Coast Guard database.
There were a half dozen companies that made little boats like this. All 13 feet or less, 40 hp or less, one or two people. Some had catamaran hulls, others looked like the one you posted. Like mini Don Aronow offshore racers Commonly called Cigarette boats. There are a few youtube videos of these little boats. this is the Mini Hawk.

I finally found the father of the young man who owns the boat. He claimed that it was a Scarab and was used at the Disney complex in Florida. He did not know what his son planned to do with it.

I looked up Scarab boats on the net and what they showed were larger jet boats. This could have been built to be a jet boat with the square, solid transom and the closed area behind the seats. All that would have been required is a hole in the transom for the jet and a hole in the bottom for the water pick up. The outboard motor bracket could have been an add-on for a different purpose..

Certainly could be. Disney had various types of boats. They tended to avoid outboard powered ones because of the obvious prop hazards.

Thinking about the design of the hull with the solid transom and rear cover, this might have been a non-powered boat, if used at an amusement park. It might have been towed or allowed to flow with water in a channel. The motor mount could have been added at any time and the crude hole for the steering cable indicates that may have also been added later.

It remains a mystery.
