TOPIC: Falls Flyer in Conn...$500 starting bid, N/R

On my watch list but I am pretty sure it will get way to high for my wallet. Almost wish I hadn't bought that Feather a couple weeks ago.

Hell I gotta get you payed before I buy another one. The Feather I just got about killed me ......

The description of this boat is scary...half the fittings missing, no interior at all, no title, "dead" trailer, etc. From a commercial restoration standpoint, this is a $30,000+ restoration, possibly $40K. The transom, bodywork and painting alone would take two men two weeks plus the cost of all the paint and supplies...about $11,500. To that, add the electrical, instrumentation, seating, interior, windshield, all the missing parts, re-chroming, trailer restoration or replacement, etc., etc...and all the man-hours it would take to put it all together. Lastly, it will need the motor rebuilt/restored or replaced.

If I wanted one of these (I don't...I think they're ugly), I would buy one already restored. This boat is what my wife refers to as "an un-economical venture"...something the seller obviously understands.

Jan, glad you said that. Just what I thought, as I have a boat in the same shape and can not even give it away.

I totaly get the cost's envolved, been there done/do that. I also agree they are ugly and probly handle like crap but I believe that is the attraction. I would never pay much if even the starting price but it is kinda close to me so I will keep an eye on it for mainly that reason. I have to many know anyway. LOL

It seems like the only way you could properly restore one like that is if you have another complete one already.
I wouldn't even want to try finding the correct missing parts for it.
OTOH it's nice to see there are still a few stashed away out there.

While being Fugly would not put it out of the running if I were looking for a full blown project....One has to determine what they are willing to do with it......One one hand you could spend the rest of your life running down the correct parts or you could Resto Mod it and upgrade everything....

Either way it looks more like a planter at this point.....Dig a hole in the back yard and build a patio around the bow and have a topical boat Bar.

Some people just let things go beyond reasonable repair and still thing they are priceless.

I would say let it go.

I suppose it's all relative. Somebody has another one listed in the Glassifieds that actually looks worse and he's asking $2,500. I guess I just don't get it.

Hummm..... been relisted because buyer had personal problems so the seller says. I had been watching it and never saw one bid. Watching again. LOL

I think his personal problem is that he wants it out of his yard and he can't get anybody to pay for the honor of hauling it away. It had any value, he would have gotten bids. He should start the bidding at $1.00 and take whatever he can get.

I don't think that bidder reads this forum. Maybe his wife wants a planter. Then again, maybe he's an idiot. In any case, you know that the seller is chuckling to himself, "There's a sucker born every minute."

Wow.... lots of negative opinion. probably right all this old stuff should just be crushed and recycled. But then I have been "one of those guys" that likes the chance to dream. $500 is cheap.

Dreams are free. Turning that boat into a going concern would be a financial nightmare.

Well, not really negative (maybe a little) just being honest about it having been there done that. Unless it is done as a total labor of love and money being of no concern it just isn't worth it. Believe me, I would really like to ad it to my collection of someday projects but at a min of $500.00 plus retrieving it not even taking into account the cost of finding the missing parts, well you know where this is going.
Go for it I hope it never finds its way to the scrap pile believe me.
