This is a posting I saw on FB. Local auctioneer that must be closing out a marine shop:

massartauctioneers.hibid.com/catalog/77061/boats--outboard-motors--mopeds-and-more---sugar-maple-dr/

I didn't look at everything, but many seemed to be in running order. They had a cool looking dual cockpit boat in there that would be a project for someone to restore.

Cal was the first person I sent it to. About 30 minutes away from both of us.

I am trying to show some restraint

Tempted to bid on a motor...someone intervene! Why is it so hard to say no when they seem to just call your name?

I'll be honest - I will probably bid on a couple in a few days when it gets closer to the end of the auction. Don't need another project, but you would hate to miss buying a good motor for less than $50!!!!

Sorry I did not see this earlier Shake. I was bidding on that 90 and then thought...I don't want to drive the bid up if someone really wanted it/needed it more than me (since I do not have a boat for it yet anyway). Hope that was you that out-bid me. I have stepped aside and will not bid today. Good luck...looked like a reasonably nice motor (with an extra clamp and "trim in a box"). Sorry if I cost you another $50.

I hope someone here got that 90 Merc. I looked at it yesterday and it was a beauty. It went for $160!!!! I felt sick when I saw that. I could have swapped motors on one of my Lone Stars in a second. I heard yesterday that it still purrs like a kitten.

I ended up getting a few items to play with. Talked to the person selling and it was a private collector who had been gathering the motors since he was 16. He is now 73 and the wife wants him to unclutter. He was a little sick for how low everything went, but was really nice about it. He even brought me a box of parts for the 50's era Johnson 15 hp that I bought, and is going to look for the motor cover for the 85 hp that I bought. I got the 85 hp for $30!! He said it ran good, but he pulled the transom bracket off of it for another boat.

I told him that I will probably be in the same spot in 30-40 years.....

I sent a message to the Auction that I cannot pick up the steering parts I won. I told him to first give the wheels and cables to the person who won the 90 and then if no luck, give them to any other winner who wanted them as I am too busy to drive over to get them. Mark is my name...so if you want them, go ask for them. Contact me through e-mail here if you need me to call him to confirm I want to give them away. 4 steering wheels, cables and a glove box.

I will be in touch with the seller to pick up the cover for my 85 hp. I will ask him about them if I remember.

Wish I had known - it would have been easy to throw them on the trailer.
