TOPIC: How Hot is Too Hot?

So I started my 75hp Scott today and it ran great! But instantly the engine metal gets REAL hot, like too hot to touch. The water coming out the tell tale is pretty warm too, not scorching but warm.

Is this normal? Should I get one of those sensors and read the temps?

If you sprinkle water on the head and it boils - you are too hot. You may have a water flow problem or the thermostat could be stuck if it is running too hot. How are you getting your water supply?

Well I don't think it was that hot because the water wasn't boiling. It was in my trash can test tank, I will run it some more and post again, I is probably ok

Take the thermostat out and try it again.

How long did you let it run? Working t-stats open pretty fast but not immediately.

I would take it out but for all the great McCullough design, the thing they forgot is to make an easily accessible t-stat. I have to remove the whole cover plate. But I already broke one Bolt taking a bracket off so I would hate to bust more...
