We had a Haboob today where I live. I was in town, about 15 miles west of home, and I could see this huge tan wall of dust, hundreds of feet high, to the west of me. Since I had left a boat uncovered at home, I headed east in a hurry. I was driving at 55-60 mph and it seemed to be gaining on me in the rearview. When I got home it was advancing over the last open terrain maybe 1-2 miles west of me. By the time I got the boat cover on, the thing was all over me. A half hour later, it had passed. Glad I had the windows closed in the house. These things come up from time to time, but more common around Phoenix and Tucson. This is the first one I've seen in New Mexico. Photo isn't the one that hit today, but that's what they look like.

Or, sneezing online?

I guess the name came from the middle east, sounds like it. But these show up in a lot of arid climates. Here in SW New Mexico, what we lack in water, we make up for in earth and wind. Not bad until the earth and wind show up at the same time!

Those suck! Got many friends down there AZ. I'll take our great summers PNW, green with billions of trees, and the rainy gray months winter don't bother me. But damn dust gets into everything!

Never been in one those but its gotta be scary weird!

I always thought the PNW was beautiful country but I never traveled up that way. Lived in Southern Cal for a long time. PNW looks like a great place to be a boater. I lived in South Fla for years, different from PNW but also very green, and you could drop a boat in the water virtually anywhere. I miss that.

PNW is a great place to be retired. Of course thats anywhere really! We got the mountains, ocean, protected water Puget Sound with islands and LOTS of water. Plenty inland fresh lakes, cheap to live, and great summers. Winter little if any snow, just gray, 40's, and drizzle. Man cave time! Its does get aggravating March/April/May, as not warm, not cold, just boring. But soon, like a light switch, WHAM...forget all about winter!

Too damn hot and humid me FL summers, otherwise no problems me. Got many friends all over down there. (SoCal and NorCal too here many relatives). So simple easy to road trip out here for "vacation from a vacation" if needed! Nothing wrong with the SW me, just fate kinda dragged me out here. So I'm stuck. Plus a side benefit is having Thom "the Doc" living 20 miles north me. Always great to go there in the "operating room", and bench race!
