TOPIC: Selling online

I have an ever-growing pile of stuff that I'll never use, but probably could be used by others. Some vintage car parts, specialized tools, boat stuff, etc. I'd like to sell on ebay but the hitch is determining the shipping cost before listing the item for sale. Anyone here have any tips that would help me get past that roadblock? Do you need to buy an accurate scale to weigh the stuff? I know about postal service flat rate boxes, but if I want to ship ups or fedex I assume I'll need to weigh the items to determine the shipping cost before listing. Any suggestions appreciated. I don't want to become a hoarder!

The scale you use doesn't have to be super accurate Norm, a normal bath room scale would get you close. Just remember to add a pound or two for packing materials, and the safe way is to plug in the dimensions of the box as well. UPS and FedEx both will "up charge" you if the box is bigger than their set "formula" for the weight. Both have freight charge calculators on their websites;

Call me too innocent but I've sold bunches of stuff on craigslist and eBay. Most of the time I would package the stuff and take it to the post office and see how much it would cost to mail the farthest distance from me. When a buyer would purchase and the postage was less I would put a postal money order or cash in the box along with the item. 100% positive feedback over 10 years now, got a congrats from eBay last month.
