Snow shoveling, I give up! Here's a trip to the mailbox this morning. 1st of March and the temps are supposed to be in the mid 30's.
That little tip of a rod sticking out of the snow bank by the mailbox is over 3' above the grass level.

I agree this time of year can be trying. I just got my pool up and running last week. It was 81 and sunny and I darn near got sun burnt. This week I've been trimming my palms. Oh the horror, LOL!

Charles, my sister and brother-in-law live north of Virginia on Hartly Lake, closer to international Falls MN. Haven't heard from them in a few weeks now. Probably buried under 20' of the stuff somewhere.

OK Steve, don't fall off the ladder while trimming the dead palms off. Sun's a lot brighter up north here when it reflects off the snow. Gotta wear the sun block and shades every day otherwise when I walk inside a person can't see sh....

LOL! Couldn't resist. This place is fine for the winter but when those 90 straight days of over 100 show up I can't wait to get out. My poor boat is buried in the snow in Spokane.

70 degrees and sunshine today, freezing rain, sleet and snow tomorrow afternoon. I didn't even want to go outside today because I'd be depressed tomorrow.

Jim, I AM WITH YOU. I told Sandy yesterday that I was not going outside because anything I did I would have to redo when this passes.
It's 7 am and I am 50 miles north of McKenny VA in a town called Varina. We had no rain but the sleet has started a couple of minutes ago. Fun, fun, fun.

Talked to my brother up in eastern Iowa last night, they've been without water at their house for two weeks! Seems the 48" deep frost line code just isn't enough this year, his main water line is frozen somewhere out near the street up under his driveway. (Seems to be happening to a lot of folks around that area this year as well.)

He got a pro to come by and help sending a smaller tube out the main line with boiling hot water pumping thru it, but only got 40' out of the 60' run to the street. Seems the line has collapsed from frost heave or something, gotta wait for the spring thaw to dig it up or the expense would be double the normal rate!

I don't think I could make it out there in the winter,Mark. I guess since I've always lived here (NC), it would be tough to live out there or up north.jim

Mark, be glad it's just a frozen water line. Last night my son got back from a week in Mexico to find that his sewer drain is froze up. YUP, flushing backed up into the bathtub.
I was in Marquette Mich. early this morning and snapped this picture of lake Superior, frozen solid all the way to Canada. -24 air temp, not the chill factor.
