TOPIC: USS Silversides engine starts

USS Silversides engine starts 5 years 7 months ago #139643

Hey all,

Its been a while since I have posted: two year old twins seem to dominate my time!

Anyway, I know there are a lot of engine/ boat buts on this site so I thought it might be cool to share a video of my day job. I work full-time at the USS Silversides museum in Muskegon, MI as the vessel preservation manager. The majority of my duties focus around the mechanical upkeep of the submarine, including keeping the engines in working order. Anyway, we try to do a half dozen or so engine starts a year. Although this video is from last summer it is still neat to watch.
BTW, if anyone is interested, this Sunday we will live stream an engine start on our website and Facebook page as part of our lost boat ceremony starting at 11am.

Enjoy!
Scott

Amazing video. Appreciate your posting it. Brings back some memories of Navy years. I was surface but for someone to be enclosed with those noisy beasts in a hot sweaty confined space took guts.
Thank you.

Nope Nope Nope goes against one of my mantra's. 1) Never jump out of a perfectly good airplane 2) Never go in anything designed to sink!
