Mid 80 degree temps and humidity nearing 190% so I took a break from the honey do list, poured a tottie, a rather "stiff" one I might add. Sat down on a swing chair to watch the world go by. Got a visitor who stopped by for a sip.
That's him checking out the beverage.
He decides to have a sip.
After several trips back to his home and back I think he went over 3.0. Started bumping into the side of the cup and then decided to go for a swim.
Feeling sorry for the poor chap I grabbed a small stick for him to hang on to while I pulled him up and out. He was totally wasted! Wobbled around for awhile and then tried to take off several times without much success.
He fell off the side of the table and then staggered around a few minutes, got his bearings and then flew off. He must have spread the word because a few minutes later his cousin came for a dip.
Needless to say that little fella met a different fate cuz his type get rather cranky and mean after a few sips.
The paper wasps are a friendly bunch that usually don't cause any trouble. The yellow jackets on the other hand are something else.

OK, so what are the ones with the dangly, long legs?

They are a lot mellower than a yellowjacket, and have been building nests around my boat all summer. They might buzz around some but they don't seem to get riled-up easily.

Dang yellowjackets are just doggone mean little S.O.Beez and they really don't like it if you mow over their hole-in-the-ground nest, then come back later with the weed-whacker!!

Over the years I've been stung more times by yellowjackets than any other kind of bee here in the PNW.

So far this August I've not been stung by those yellow ba$$--ds. I do have local bald faced hornets that are pretty friendly to me. They have been around my home for the past 24 years, a new nest each summer usually around 50' from their old residence.

They even find us out in the boat when we break out the snacks and beverages. Only way to dodge them is to put the hammer down on the 100 HP and speed away. If you have the paper honeycomb nest wasps building where they aren't wanted, fill a brown paper grocery bag to round shape with plastic bags and tie it up nearby. They think it's a hornet nest and move on. Sounded too good to be true, but has worked in two bad areas here and our friend's place.

First, do no harm!
It's a lot easier to buy a boat than sell a boat.(Stole this from a member!)
All that work and hardware store mailbox letters for the hull? Tsk tsk..

Then you need a bigger motor on a faster boat!
