TOPIC: Computer Trouble - I'm just SICK!

Just got back from visiting my son, knew there was something up when my wife met me at the door with "sit down, I've got something to tell you". It seems windows decided the memory was full, and deleted almost everything off the hard drive! Guess I should be happy it's still working at all, but all my saved files on the Starflite, the Johnson, are gone. The only backups are the few I saved to photobucket, and the few I have posted here. The jump drive I had as a backup for some has mysteriously turned up missing.

Hey MarkS, try this:

turn off and carefully Unplug everything from the tower INCLUDING the power and let it sit for like a half hour or so, then reconnect everything and power it back up.

memory is on thing, the system not seeing beyond the OS is a little tale tale sign that a little grimmlen got in.

you may be able to recover a lot more than you think

try running a data recovery program, if you dont have one let me know I have a few maybe there is one small enough to email you

Id also suggest you run a hardrive imaging software from now on

it will take a photo of the current hardrive, the the event of catastrophic failure , you simply slide in the recovery disc and tell it to restore your hardrive

again I have several imaging apps if you want to try one

Thanks guys, I appreciate the kind words and offers of assistance. I'm pretty "computer illiterate", but I'd be willing to give both ideas a try. My wife is extremely unhappy as well, she uses the computer to work from home four days a month. She had to spend several hours on the phone with her IT dept. yesterday getting her connection to her work network hooked back up.

you can download a free recovery program here off the "PC World magazine" site.... to get you going on recovery & you may want to try more than one recovery program, like antivirus programs some see viruses that other programs dont see
