TOPIC: Inherited a Niagara.

Inherited a Niagara. 12 years 3 months ago #67863

Inherited my late father's Niagara. I will be picking this boat up in the later part of October and will be trying to get it brought back to life. this is the only decent picture I have of it at this time. I enjoyed many hours on and behind this boat when I was younger.

It will need a transom replacement (maybe a lot more!!) and a lot of TLC. Looking forward to sharing the progress with the members here and hope to have it back on the water next year.

Oh how I love the lap-strake look.

That is going to be a nice one to do. Keep us posted on how things are going. And most importantly. DON'T FORGET THE PIC'S!!!!!

Hello DKerns,
Your Niagara is really nice, and better still that it is a family boat with all the family history. Best of luck with it and all the repairs. We were introduced to MFG Boats just this past spring, and bought a 1964 Niagara Custom this past June. It too, as it turns out will need transom work also, a common problem as I am learning. We will be interested to hear how you handle the transom repair.

Well, it is home!! Pulled the engine off for the trip as the transom had me a little worried. Peeled off the the very poor repair today and exposed the transom. Looks like I will be digging a little deeper!!

Added 12" wheels.

A little spit and polish and your on your way. Looks like a nice project. I'd do it. That boat was born not all that far from me.

Oh, that'll buff out...
Looks pretty straight forward replacement. There's lots of replacement strings on this site so you should have no problem. Nice looking boat.
Have any problems, just ask. Looking forward to your progress.

I seen a boat one time where the outboard and transom broke off and fell to the ground. Another that was for sale locally had the transom broken on one side. The add said it needed a little fiberglass repair. LOL It was a nice boat but he wanted way to much. It too was a Niagara.
