TOPIC: new to me Westfield 1967

new to me Westfield 1967 1 year 1 month ago #148543

Hi,
I just got a 1967 Westfield.. I'm wondering a few things about the boat..

Is it a Regal or a Custom? I'm not sure how to tell the difference..

Also for this year, should I expect the stringers to be all glass, or glassed-in-wood?

The boat has a Yamaha 25hp four-stroke.. I hope it will plane with two people.. Might be under-powered? I have no need to go fast but hope to plane..

The transom doesn't flex but doesn't 'sound solid'.. I expect it's delaminated (glass skins from the wood core inside). It does have aluminum plates that someone added inside and outside the transom where the motor is, maybe 18" square. From a safety standpoint, run it gently as is or should I work on the transom?

Thanks so much,

Mark (West Bath Maine)

Hi Mark,
I have a 65' Westfield. So i can speak on owning a very similar boat to yours. My Stringers are all glass, im leaning towards yours being the same. First time i took the boat out my 40 HP popped through the inner transom skin. This has kicked off a major resto. It seems like your missing the splashwell, and they definitely did some work to the aft. Id stick close to shore for a few runs. Good luck
