TOPIC: '64 Scott deck replacement

Hello. I picked-up this Scott for a song and found the heal styrofoam soggy like ripe watermelon. I finally got it all out but had to cut the top of the stringers to get to it. I don't intend to replace the foam; just let air pockets do any emergency floating if needed. I'll top it with marine plywood and glass it in.

Question: I'm probably losing some lateral strength having cut off the tops. Should I do anything to restore the original design or just leave it alone?

Structurally you will lose much integrity unless you foam it back in. I have seen where hard white styrofoam blocks were used, with a small amount of foam filling the voids, if you are trying to avoid foam getting soggy again (white styro will not take on water). Less liquid foam, less reabsorption later.... Just my 2 cents.

Yhe foam adds much to the rigidity of your boat.
