Looks sort o like a lower unit drain plug. Where did it come from?

Hey,

I have checked mcmaster's & they do not carry them in brass which is what I would like to replace them with to keep close to original.

They hold the three pieces of transom together.. mahogany ply inside, the fiberglass center & the mahogany 1 by's outside.

They also hold the keel & keelson through the hull as well as the floor to the floor supports.

They attach to a carriage bolt

Hey,

I have tried JamesTown.
This is what they have.

Chrome-plated brass Barrel Nuts are recommended for thru-bolt installations of decorative hardware, and a variety of low stress applications. Barrel nuts are available in Chrome plated Brass.

The issue I have is they state low stress applications. I do not consider a transom to be low stress.

Do you think I am over analyzing?

I am open to suggestions.

No, not at all! Brass is a "soft metal", if you're concerned about stress stainless would be a much better choice IMHO. Keep in mind I'm not familiar with the hardware you're talking about, just speaking in general terms. (Photobucket isn't working on this computer for some reason!)

I can not attach pics to this web site.

I have to say.. I am in the building industry & what I understand is stainless steal is not the same as it used to be. Depending on were it is made. We have to be careful that we are using stainless with the right amount of Chromium over 10.5%. Just because it says 316 stainless.. is it?

Any suggestions on posting pics here?

J.

Just wondering if you ever found a source for these? I am replacing the deck, spray rails, and "outer transom" on my '59 Erie. I am not missing any of those nuts, but did make a small attempt to find replacements "just in case", but could not find any. Needless to say I've been VERY careful not to lose any.
