TOPIC: Odd 500 Long shaft

I picked this up today as a parts motor. The guy lost the i d plate but had the s/n written down in the ad. 15351566. '62 - '63
What I found as being odd is it has no shocks, or chrome bands around it. Don't see any holes for those either. Also had a 350 faceplate. The motor is stuck sorta, but not solid, will find out soon how much. It still has the factory seal. A 2 blade prop.
The electrical plug and wires look way better than any I have had along with control box ( with key ) Cables are toast but good ends on them.

1961 merc 350 long shaft pretty common 40 hp. wrap should be black with white stripes. thunderbolt power head 40 cubes not super thunderbolt 44cubes.

Thanks Dave. It seems to be stuck pretty good. Lots of good parts though. The mag would be usable on the 400 and 500's maybe? will start checking part numbers.
I'm planning on stripping it down. This would be a good one for me to open up and see Mercury insides.

all exterior parts will work on all 40-44 cube motors up to 1964. carbs will work on all 40 cube motors.

Thanks Dave, I am going to strip it down. Box up the usable stuff, play with the powerhead. The electrical and control box was worth my $50.

the mag alone is worth that.

The mag will work on any 4-cylinder Merc with a magneto from '55 on up.

Yes, I have the mag all cleaned up, coil tested good. Good starter and a lot of small parts. One of the best things was the plug and electrical wires. The best I've seen, it must have been new not to long back. Parts are always good.
