TOPIC: Identifying Mark 55A

Identifying Mark 55A 10 years 2 months ago #98801

I just want to check the exact type of my Mercury - I see on the model number on the id tag it says Mark 55A then there is a B in a small box next to it - the serial number is 1257057 would like any information which would help me when ordering parts.

Many thanks

Any chance it's an 'E' after the Mark 55A:
Mark 55A

Mark 55AE (Electric Starting, Short Shaft, with Alternator)

there would be only an AM AS AE AEL. L is for long shaft. E is for full electric. S is for electric starter only no charging M is for manual start only.

I have to go have a closer look - eyesight is not what it used to be!

Yes, it is an E not a B - my poor tired eyes. So that would make it full electric? What does this mean? Electric start, charge etc?

E is full electric with charging. look for yellow wires from under the flywheel and a rectifier . S is starter only.
