TOPIC: Getting in gear after impeller change

Okay now, you folks give me hope. I have dropped the LU (gee, not even 6 a.m.!) and have some questions.

Does the shift shaft move easily through its rotation? Mine does, and it seems to be about 270 degrees. When I move it all the way to the right and spin the prop slowly clockwise, the shaft housing jumps a bit left as the prop moves. As I turn the shift shaft slowly clockwise, the housing stops it's small jumping (I assume that's neutral), and continues as I move past, it starts jumping to the right.

So, what is forward and what is reverse here? Forward is the shift shaft before it can be turned clockwise? Or all the way at the end of its clockwise travel?

Where does this little dogged gear have to sit to match up with the upper part of the motor when everything comes together? Or does it just sort of fit into place with no effort.

Let's see if I can get this baby to work. I don't have anything else to do today, except GO BOATING!
