TOPIC: switch box weak spark 1981 50 hp

I am testing out a 1981 50 hp merc on my 1960 glassmagic playmaster, turns over fine,good compression It does not fire, weak spark,I did ohms test on the coils, trigger circuit,and stator. I am leaning towards replacing the switch box but I want to make sure. how do you test this
I also have a 1968 50 hp merc, has 90 psi compression in #. , 1,2 cly. and only 60 psi in #3, cant fit the gauge down in there to test #4.also the e cable from the control is rotten. I may give up on this one for now ,the 1981 has more potential.

It smokes, exhaust gas coming out motor support hole below power head on the outside,could it be could it be a gasket or seal between the power head and driveshaft housing?
