I dont think they owner of this newer Yamaha thought he'd be pulled back to the dock with a 1965 mercury. His battery died. Kinda funny

Or I think in Conrads case would it be 850 or 900 words, at least it does not look like your model is a 1000!.
P.S. I just strapped on a 66 950 SS onto my 64 MFG, runs like a watch. Looks very much like your 65. I like that these two years still have all the chrome trim and the top cowl grab handle like the earlier 60's do. 66 is first year of the Thunderbolt ignition and Polar gap plugs but Merc still used points as the trigger for the switchbox, interesting one year design, they switched to the chopper wheel trigger form 67 on.

Yep your correct its a 65 900 Ive got a 66 1100 and a 69 1250 They did some changing in those years with the ignition systems.
