Merc's rattle can says.....Enamel. But what kind? Acrylic enamel?
Or more like farm implement enamel? Painted my cowl and got a few dust nibs in it. Anyone ever tried buffing this paint? Good/bad idea?

Thanks ,
Ed

I paint all my Mercs with rattle cans. I find that paint buffs out very well. On some I have even wetsanded it and then polished it. Of course, the overall finish right out of the can is often just fine (without those pesky dust nibs you refer to).

Good luck. Let's see some pics :)

Thanks for the reply!
I got a couple of questions.... Hope you don't mind..

How long did you wait before buffing?

What did you use for compound/polish?

Lastly, what type of applicator did you use?

I was going to post some pics. But I thought a link might give you a better idea of what I am doing.

Let me preface it , by saying I knew nothing about outboards when I started. It took me a loong time to get this far. Acquiring the tools and knowledge took most of the time. As you can imagine, with all the time and effort I want the paint to look as best as I can get it!

Thanks again,

Thanks for your kind words Mark!
I learned a great deal. Now I have the confidece to take on just about any repair it may need. If I could only get the paint job to look as good as everything else, I'll be sittin' purdy! :)

Thanks,
Ed
