TOPIC: Pete's tip of the day!

Pete's tip of the day! 13 years 1 month ago #43167

using expoxy to fill minor pitting before paint is a huge PITA.....sand sand sand, take a break, sand sand sand. Even though I tried to use as little as possible.

Went with the self etching filler primer on the other parts....
Pics to come.

glazing putty almost sands with the bare hand, when painted it absorbs the paint and becomes as hard as the paint

I couldn't find it around here at pep boys or west marine - unless (and likely) I didn't really know what I was looking for. The stuff I found was like, polyester based for fiberglass repair etc.

Since the lower has a poorly repaired crack (as In a sloppy looking weld that I cleaned up as much as I dared) and missing 1/3 of the fin at the bottom, and needs resealed, i was not going to spend alot of time on it. So it would make a good test bed for thus glazing putty.

Perhaps I'll check Napa again (didnt see 'glazing Putty) on there web site

Glazing putty will be in the paint section at Home Depot. Having used the stuff and seeing its porousity, MadProps idea that it will absorb the paint makes perfect sense to me. Good luck.

Use a quality marine glazing putty. Catalyzed types are best
