TOPIC: 89 mariner Classic "45" installed.

Put my 89 Mariner Classic "45" on a 20' 1970 Harris Flote Bote pontoon. She is the same as an inline 4 Merc 500. Classic "50" Not going to use the Oil injection system. Going to use 50 to 1 oil in gas. Ditching the Auto Blend System. Anybody want an Auto Blend tank?

Now that I got her mounted I got to clean her up a bit.
And rig it. Still got to mount seat base and Helm.

Those are really nice little Mercs.
The time proven 44ci, with ADI (ignition), and the best power trim.
Just be sure and monitor the RPMs when using on the pontoon boat as you don't want the little beasty lugging due to a prop that may be correct on a much lighter or smoother moving hull.
Speed isn't the concern.
You just want to use a prop that will allow the Merc to spool up into a nice cruise RPM.
This type of service will also benefit from the use of SeaFoam added to the fuel mix to aid in controlling carbon build-up.

I will check the prop for pitch size and run some Sea Foam. This motor was on a Crest pontoon. It was my brothers which was the original owner. Only had to get it worked on once. Power pack went bad.Seemed to smoke a lot with that Auto Blend unit.
Did you notice in one of my photos a 56 Merc Mk55 in the backround?

Wow, a late ADI 44.
I had a 64 Merc 500 and loved that little thing. Was small, smooth, what a gem. Yours has the good power trim. Nice package.

Got this motor from my brother. He took me to the cleaners. $500.00 Tilt and trim works great.
But I know the history of this motor. My brother is very good at preventive maintenence. He put a 2010 Evinrude E-Tech 25 on his pontoon to replace the Mariner "45". $6000.00.
It is a very nice motor but I'm a cheap skate.

Yes sirree Bob I did notice that lil sweety in the background.
I used to have pick-up loads of those Mark55s back-in-the-day.
$10 - $25 max for them. Now they are getting harder to find in nice restorable shape and I wish I would have kept every single one of them. SIGH
