TOPIC: Engine not started in four years

Engine not started in four years 14 years 8 months ago #3581

I have a 1999 60 HP 2 stroke that was serviced then not started again. It's been four years plus. I have a new fuel line and tank. What should I do before starting it again?

Pour a little penetrating oil(kroil, PB blaster or something similar) down each spark plug hole and rotate the motor over a few times to give it some lubrication.

I would probably go ahead and do an impeller too before you start it...just to be on the safe side. They seem to deteriorate faster from sitting there not being used than anything.

Check all your fuel lines for cracking and all your electrical connections for corrosion or any wires that could have been chewed on by rodents or anything.

Put fresh fuel in it, and go.

Thanks - I would never have thought about the impeller.
