Got this one for the collection this weekend.
It was hiding, but I sniffed it out!
And here it is in the lineup.

Thanks Dave.
I took the Fiberform tri hull with the bad transom to the land fill and disposed of it. It was a penny a pound for disposal. It cost me
$17.40. No motor, controls, seats, gas tank, and two gauges. 1740 pounds. Heavy.
When I was coming home I saw the nose of a boat sticking up in the air behind a gentlemans house that I had not seen before. Curious as to what it was, I knocked on the door. 45 minutes and $150.00 later, I was on my way home.
I got the complete set of controls and two gas tanks with it.

Seems as though the nick-name has stuck. :)
I shall wear it proudly.
Truth be known, I am a Merc hoarder!!!!!!!!!
But with time, money, and help from all you good folks, these little pieces of marine history will be back in their element. Out there on the water, proudly pushing a craft of some sort.

Slow motion. I am looking to bolt my recent 115 Tower on it.
It is a long shaft so I will have to raise her up.
I have a fuel cell to go in the bow. Also a set of back to backs, low and white.
I am just basically gathering parts. I have to get back to the floor and get that done.
I have a paint scheme that will surprise and delight the crew here. But I am not going to let that cat out of the bag yet. But it will be absotively awesome and VERY recognizable.
Time frame? Mid summer. I am finishing up a lumi for a coworker and he is getting anxious 'cause the fishing is getting close.
Putting together a Mark 55 to go an a little Larson 14 footer. Red,red, red. I am looking to float that this summer also.
If the devil finds work for idle hands, he will never visit my shop!
I smell of two stroke smoke and gear lube most days. :)

Well I got a chance to get to this gal this last weekend.
Compression says 1;120, 2;118, 3;125, 4;120.
The impellor was shot. Replaced it.
Gear lube was full and looked good, it may have been changed when they quit using this motor. I changed it.
The plugs looked new on the outside, when I took them out for the com. check, they were put in brand new. They had never been run.
Took the carbs apart and cleaned them.
When I took the prop off I found the thrust on backward. Just like it was on my 1000 when I got it. It was rusted solid to the shaft.
I had to destroy it getting it off. I replaced it and time for the test tank.
She fired right up and said "let's go to the lake". I explained that she was not leaving the shop looking like that. Uh oh I am talking to my motors!!
She pees water like it should and sounds pretty healthy. I think she's a keeper.
This is the pic of the lower on my 1000. This is how the thrust was on this 650.(No pic of it)

Thanks Bob
I was talking with one of the mechanics at my work tonight and he said that his son has an old outboard motor in his shop. I asked what kind and he said he didn't know. He said it isn't black and it is a big heavy thing. I asked if he could call his son and ask what kind it was. He did and the son said it is a Mercury. Hmmm, not black and a Mercury, sounds good to me!! He asked his son if he wanted to get rid of it and the son said he has an older Johnson on a fishing boat that is not running right and if I would help him give it a tuneup I could have the Mercury. He said that it was on a 17' fiberglass boat and he wanted an aluminum fishing boat so he yanked the motor and put it in the shop and scrapped the boat.
And the hits just keep on comin'! :)
I will keep all here posted.
I hope it is a big Cloud White 6. How cool would that be.

How big is your hiding spot that you can keep all of these Mercs hidden from your wife? If I had that many I would have to keep them in a heated building because I would be sleeping out there with them!

Well Bill, my wife has suggested that to me a time or two. :(
My shop is 40 x 72 and inside of the shop my engine room measures 13 x 22. It is alot of area to keep clean and organized, but I manage.

Merc 650, the "panther" engine, was one of the very best Merc made. I had a 1964 model, cost $998.00 brand new and ran it for 20 years on a 16' Starcraft fiberglass boat. It still put out 60hp on the dyno after 20 years, and all we ever did was change plugs , and fuel pumps. If you run Quicksilver 50:1 oil and high test non-ethanol gas, they will run forever.
