TOPIC: Evinrude tilt/trim compatable w/Merc motor

Hi all,
I have a 59 Crosby runabout that is in the process of a total rehab. My goal is to get a 59 Merc tower for her. A tilt/trim for an Evinrude/Johnson came up on CL and I was wondering how universal these tilt trim units are. Is there any compatability? Also am I putting the cart before the horse here in that I don't have a motor yet? I'm new to outboards so please be patient. Thanks.

you want an early to mid 70's tilt & trim for the older towers of power

And it needs to be from a Merc or Mariner - the OMC stuff (Evinrude and Johnson)won't fit the Merc.

Anything will fit if you throw enough time and money at it...
Actually, your best bet is to get a CNC style aftermarket trim...

I'm not much on engine mechanics so I'm looking for simple. It sounds like Merc or CNC is my best bet. Thanks. I'll start posting pix when I get the cover off and get started on the rehab.
