What's the trick to getting the L/U off. All nuts are loose and bolts removed. Can see small space between mid and lower but it won't come off. 2x4 on sides and cav plate no luck. Flat bar in gap still no luck?????

drive shaft or shift shaft maybe rusted cut some wood wedges and beat them in evenly

Sounds like you have enough gap established to eliminate this thought, but have you removed the allen cap-screw hiding up in the exhaust port under the cavitation plate?

with enough gap to use a Flat bar in the gap, I assumed the rear tab allen bolt was removed... I hope nothing has been bent using the flat bar on it

DR motor no shift shaft. the allen in the exhaust is your problem.

Joe,
See the attached pictures that point out all the nuts and the allen-head cap-screw that need to be removed.
Read the tip on how to 'push' the lower unit away from the driveshaft housing to avoid prying on and most likely instantly snapping out a chunk of the horizontal fins that are so tempting to pry on.

And,...I cruised your parts for sale ads and the way you worded it I'm sure that if someone is on the hunt for one of the items they can make you an offer if they feel the price is more than they want to pay.
The old 78A parts aren't growing on trees any more and yours look pretty decent.
:)

Hey Thom, Thx for the instructions. I know I didn't remove that screw and there is no gap back at that part. I'm sure it will come off after that. Probably going to need help getting the powerhead out also. Thx, Joe

I'll give you a tip. if you are taking the powerhead off put the lower unit on first on reassemblly. it is much easier beleive me it is a pain in the as**** to catch the water tube with the powerhead on.
