Have had nothing but Mercurys over 50 years, 22 HP, 50 HP, 80 HP, and the current 1974 115 HP for the last 23 years on a 1971 Glastron V-153. Also like to try out different props. Here is the prop collection.

Clockwise starting at the back, Ballistic 19", Ballistic 21", Power Tech PTR 21", and in the front, three Mercury Quicksilver 21's".

How do you find the Ballistic's work? I have the same two as you have but the pitch is too low for my '84 115 (prop rated by then, so would be about 140 in old money). I picked my two up on eBay for a song over here in the UK. I 'lucked out' as you gentlemen over there would say.

The 21" Ballistic runs about 51 MPH at 5,200. It is faster than the Laser II and slower than the two blade bronze (52.9 GPS). I purchased a 1988 115 HP Mercury that may replace the 1974 115 HP Mercury and anticipate a step up to 22" or 23" pitch to stay in the RPM limit of 5,500 for that engine. Ballistic makes an XL series in 22" pitch, part number 335134. I just purchased the Power Tech 21" pitch which some say is really a 22" pitch. Then there are the 2-blade bronze props in 23" pitch. Picture of the Power Tech PTR21.

Interesting. I am currently running a Laser II 22p & am getting 59 mph on gps @ just under 6k rpm. Strangely on the boats current setup from 40mph up you can read the tacho as a speedo 4k = 40mph, 5k = 50mph etc. The motor is being rebuilt at the moment inc a rebore on all 6 holes so I may be looking for a slightly higher pitch Ballistic to try. I don't want to buy one until I know it's right for the boat as they are $570 + over here new (how does that compare?) so I need to be sure. My problem is going to be finding one to try!

A new Ballistic 335134 13 1/2" x 22" costs new $330. The Laser II 24" on this Glastron CXV 16' runs around 60 MPH. Owner of this boat said that the 24" was a faster design than the 22" There are plenty of used Laser II 24" around for about $250.

Thanks for that, food for thought.
