Calling the good Doc, low spark on newly restored Frankenmerc.
Thom converted this beauty to solid state a few years ago. Due to an illness, it has been stored since then with only 2 hours on the newly restored motor.. Yesterday we finally were able to get it out and she started and ran strong. Today, no start. My buddies tested with a tester and found that it had little to no spark. They said it seemed like the electronic 'distributor" wasn't getting enough spark to get started.
I imagine it is one of the CDI parts the Doc installed, and needs to be replaced...the coil replacement unit?
I will gladly call Seaway and get a new one on the way if I can get the particulars/part number.
Any ideas? Doc?

So that was a very expensive fix, 4 bills for the switch box. The old one only had 3 hours on it. So a couple questions for the Forum. How did I fry a new switch box? and can they be rebuilt. CDI-114-2986?

Headley,
Before you install the new parts,...Install a Mercury voltage regulator in place of the OEM rectifier - if we haven't already done this,
The OEM rectifier might be allowing too much voltage to the CDI-e switch-box - which is more sensitive to voltage variances than the old Merc box was.
I recommend purchasing a "used working" OEM Mercury (6) wire regulator off eBay, rather than spending your 401K on a new one, or your pocket change on a cheap new off brand (Chinese) one.

(yuppp,...OEM Merc is often made in Mexico - no big deal - they work)
And,...Contact CDI-e and see if they will test your old unit to confirm it has failed. (866)-423-4832
