I HAVE RAN OUT OF SPARES. I NEED A STEERING SETUP FOR MY '61 350. DOES ANYONE MAKE ONE WITH THE 1/2" ROD FOR THE OLD MERC'S? HELM TO GUNNEL IS 18", HELM TO TRANSOME 80" AND 30" TO CENTER OF ENGINE. ON MY A/T I MOUNTED THE STEERING ON THE TRANSOME AND USED AN ARM TO ATT , BUT WOULD LIKE TO DO THIS ONE THE CORRECT WAY.

Not available new, but you can make an adapter with a spare larger tube and a couple of brackets, works well. I will post a picture of my setup for you to get an idea.

That would be how I did my Arkansas Traveler I think. Using a 3/4 tube bolted to the transom with an arm to the outboard. I was just hoping someone was making a new 1/2" unit. I will just go ahead do that with a new standard unit.
Thanks Hugh

It is cleaner if you attach to the engine rather than the transom, I will show you how I did it shortly as soon as i can get the pictures off my camera.

Hugh,

I'll get some pics together soon. What your looking for is a Ride Guide system. I currently run one on my Glen-L Zip with a Mark 58. I have a few but need to get lengths. Will get back with you soon.

Pretty easy to set up on the engine and it looks almost factory when done right. Beauty is you can run with brand new cable and helm and not have to worry about stiff and rusted used stuff.

Yes, I have had 2 of those. The last one went on a wood boat I sold. May be a bit big for the space though. There is a boat, trailer and Merc 4cyc 57 - 61 for sale near here and it has the Ride Guide in it. All junk but for the engine and controls maybe?? Guy is wanting to get it gone and it will take a car trailer to move it. I offered $75 for it. He wants 200 but nobody is going to give him that, just too much trouble. I am going to hit him up again.

I will need a very short one, about 11 - 12 feet. If you think you have something close, let me know. I am in no hurry at this point, but if I find the right thing, I will pick it up.
Thanks Hugh

The cable is 11 ft long from the end of the steering box to the end where the nut is , and 1 foot sticking out at the motor end ,where it goes in and out
