TOPIC: Shorty 1350 exhaust tube measurements

Shorty 1350 exhaust tube measurements 7 years 11 months ago #129735

I have received a request from a fiberglassics member to post pictures of the lengths of the exhaust tube & water tube for a 1970-1971 1350 inline-6.
Please let me know if these pictures are legible.

I measured a shorty 15 mid and a long 20 mid not surprisingly they are 5 inches different. I measured three generation in-lines. The early 60's, mid to late 60's cross flow and from 73 up direct charge. That's a good rule of thumb if modifying parts from a long mid to a shorty mid.
Everything gets cut at the lower unit end not the powerhead end. Later years did not have straight water tubes.
The shift shafts I modified depended on year as to how they were done, but all wind up 5 inches shorter.
PLEASE NOTE:
The big thing to watch on the shift shaft mod is to duplicate the shift spline orientation to the lever arm or you will not have FNR shifting ranges placed correctly.
