TOPIC: help regarding fuel oil mix 196? merc 6hp twin

Hi folks. I broke the choke knob on my mariner which runs 50/1 just like my big merc so they run off the same fuel tank. While the mariner is down, there will be a white case 6hp twin merc in its place.

The 1960s merc 60 runs on 40/1. However,, its been said that in dirt bikes anyway,, with the newer high tech lubricants and detergents,, that its safe to run thinner mixtures.

Looking for opinions: Can I safely run the merc 60 on the same 50/1 fuel mix as the big merc 800? Cabellas premium 2 stroke oil with all the fancy additives is whats in the gas.

Yes, although some may argue with me. Most any Merc with needle bearings (which is nearly all of them) can run 50:1 safely.

I agree with ggreggc.
It will be fine at 50:1 with a TC-W3 oil.
Throw a little Sea Foam in the mix too.

Agreed . merc recommended there 50-1 oil when the brought it out.

Well, I knew the Dr. and Dave wouldn't argue with me, but I thought maybe someone would, guess not.

Use good oil at 50:1 and all will be well.

Ive been running this on 50/1 no problems. Plenty smoke, and idles down real clean,, unlike my mariner....
