new with a mark 35a, a glassic, and questions! 9 years 8 months ago #113898

hey everybody! i live in flagstaff Arizona and am an avid craigslist hound for cheap outboards. so when a 1965 Evinrude boat came up on craigslist with a trailer (and title) and a mark 35a i ran out right after work and picked it up. i'm starting to have a lot of questions about the motor though. judging by the registration the boat hasn't ran in about 10 years. I've done a lot of motor rebuilding but never on a motor with this distributor set up or with two carbs and 4 cylinders! I guess my real question is if i should keep this motor and make it run or should i part it out and buy something a bit newer. i noticed what parts you can find for this motor are rather expensive and that has me worried. like a 30 dollar timing belt kinda sucks. if i do keep it is there any good guides for this motor? and what all should i do before firing it? Anything other than the usual carb clean impeller replacement and ignition check? if i do keep it i would really want to restore the motor maybe this winter and make it pretty. thanks guys! and ill post elsewhere about the boat if anyone wants to see that adventure! oh and the controls! are they still good? the one that isnt hooked up looks like the end is broken off. replacemnts? fixes? and is there anything out there explaning the cable rigging?
