TOPIC: mercury 650 no spark

I have a mercury 650...serial #4051994

2 things.

1. what year is it?

2. Are there any common issues for no spark?

1974 and wireing is the main problem

Thanks Dave. That's where I will start since the previous owner couldn't figure it out by throwing parts at it.

Currently working on my 69 650, serial# 36...... I replaced the wiring harness and rewired the coils. Currently waiting on a nos switch box. If that doesn't fix it I'm out of ideas.

What parts did the previous owner replace? New parts or used?
If it has voltage to the correct terminals on the switchbox, and as Dave said about the wiring, there are only (3) other things involved.
The coil, the trigger (in the distributor) and the switchbox.
If it gets too frustrating, send me a PM if you want to box those three items up and send them to me to test, and replace whatever is needed.

Your 4 cylinder 650 has the same style (not exact replacement) ignition components as curse's 3 cyl 650.
(1) coil, a switchbox, and the trigger in the distributor.
I offer you the same assistance as I am to 'curse' if you want me to test and track down the component at fault.

Previous owner replaced all 3 of the above parts and the mercury kill switch. He replaced complete distributor. All three parts listed above were used. I think the mercury switch was new.

I'm so busy with other projects I would love to take you up on that diagnosis offer! If not it might be springtime before I can spend any real time on it.
