I have a 1960 slickcraft i'm restoring.

I was told it is a 1961 but i'm going off what the registration says.

Boat has been repainted, all wiring stripped and replaced with new, steering system converted back to the pulley and cable type, and installed a 1958 evinrude fat 50 starflite.

I wanted to post pics of the steering system since i found there is so little info on the web, maybe this will be helpful to someone. I will post other pics when i have time.

This is the setup using original hardware locations. You can see the spring rubs on the boat.

here's the same setup but i swapped pulley and spring positions. Now neither the spring or the cable rub.

Hook up at motor.

This has been a pain in my butt since i was born in 71 and never dealt with or seen these steering systems!

Now i need to see how to run the shifter/throttle cables and harness to motor without rubbing on the steering system.

Good idea!

Anything you can't find on the WEB, should be posted. That way others can find it. The more you post the better this site gets.

Thanks!

Here are some pics showing how i threaded and mounted the hub, cable, and pulleys.

I used duct tape to hold the cable on hub until i got it mounted and had tension on it.

I moved the rear pulleys and spring around a little more to get more clearance for harness and throttle/shift cables and mounted everything else.

Extra cable will be trimmed when i'm sure steering is good.

I rebuilt carb and will see if it will run longer than 15 seconds today. Also, the interior is being done as we speak...red and white of course!

Don't you just hate when boats shine that way. Hard on the eyes. :cheer:

It's lost some shine because i had a tarp over it and i think the tarp moving around dulled it some. Good thing my best friend details show cars! Gotta make it hard on the eyes again, lol.
