TOPIC: 1963 Shell lake tempest

This was a nice boat but not rare enough for me to put in back room,but I like the way they look and handle, I am doing this for a neighbor that will use it 1-2 a year but it will be displayed in his garage on a pedestal to show to show guest, it has had new floor transom,some cloth,bracing,paint[not gel]interior,it will get a drivers pedestal and a lay down back to back for his use,it has his newer 40hp etec,trim/tilt,we took a low shorelander trailer and painted it blue, more pics in a week or so Bill

Turned out really nice Bill, he should be pleased! Makes a great little "driver" boat IMHO.

Looks great Bill, I'm sure he'll love it.

Nice job!! I'm sure they will enjoy boating and turning a few heads with that. They really are very nice handling on the water.

I'm thinking more that mine is a 62 because of the small bucket seats, console, and rear deck hatch. My boat is not real user friendly, hard to get in behind the wheel for me and no room for fatties in the back either. LOL Perhaps Shell Lake opened things up for the 63 model.



Did this boat have the Tempest emblem on the dash? Mine is missing and I would very much like to have an impression so I could have one made.

Hi Bill, I too enjoyed our talk the other day.

The Tempest looks great on the matching trailer, I'm planing to paint my trailer & maybe some baby moon hub caps come spring.

I see this boat has 4 of the scoop vents on it. If you look at the pic I posted here you can see, near the floor in the center back are 2 small louvered vents that's all it has. I worried some last year about this and would leave the hatch open for a few minutes before starting (it would easy to forget or just fail to do it after a quick stop) I'm thinking I should have at least 2 of the scoops in the back. Your thoughts? Gene

Bill, wonderful transition. Wish I had your talent.
Over the years I've had several Shell Lake boats and always found them to be solid well built platforms.
My "daily driver" is a 17' Shell Lake Sunliner, really deep V, wide and plenty of room for a bald overweight SOB like me to get in, sit down, and go without groaning
Got two pictures here, first is the rough condition the day I purchased, the second is after the rebuild to give fatty some leg room.

It finally rolled out to back room just a couple decals that Dixie is making for me and it is done,I have another one of these it kinda grows on you,Bill
