Hello all!

I've been on the forum for a while, not as a member but just looking and wishing I had a classic boat like ya'll!

I finally found one this last weekend!

1967 Lyn Craft SeaBreeze Oceanic 1900. 18 foot, OMC V4 DUE-14D powered, with the OMC Electric-shift "Stringer" outdrive.

This boat has been in dry dock storage since 1986. The marina owner retired, his son found it on the third level way in the back.....so the story goes.

Seems legit though, it's all there, all original, very good shape for such an old boat. Bottom of the hull has only a few minor scratches/scrapes, appears to me as not been in the water much.

Turns over fine, has spark, haven't put a compression gauge on it yet but all 4 cylinders seem strong and even.

It needs a steering cable first. Original OMC of some type, steering wheel has a cool needle system on it to tell you when its centered. An internet search revealed this type is obsolete, no cables available, but I'd like to keep the wheel with the new rack if possible.

Any tips and advice for reviving an old FiberGlassic like this is VERY welcome!

SeaBreeze1900,

WELCOME ABOARD. - Looks like a good first project, too.

OMC used those engines in their Deluxe and Dual Deluxe models. They had an automatic oiling system which supposedly added oil in the correct amount to mix with the gas. Those systems were notorious for failing...no oil in the gas = no engine after a very few minutes. If you have that system still installed, get rid of it and add the oil directly to the fuel tank yourself. I had a boat with two of those engines. I got rid of them. Nautilus,

I once had a "business associate" in New Orleans who had a big utility runabout with a V-4 I/O 2-cycle. - About a year after I first rode in it, he had replaced the engine with a 4-cylinder "marineized" GMC/Pontiac engine.
(I guess that he "cooked" the original engine.)

Thanks for that advice. I don't see anything like oil injection or a tank for that. I think it was removed long ago. My plan was to premix anyway. Those engines use a 50/1 mix correct?

Also if it turns out that the engine is shot, what engines could I replace it with? is there a chart or list that shows what will bolt up directly to the outdrive? Thanks!
