I bought this boat for $200 with trailer no motor and bought an 1100 SS Mercury for it for $450, is this too big a motor? Seems a really solid little boat. Wet sanded the gelcoat with 400, then 1500, then polishing compound and then waxed. Amazing how great it looks.

Welcome aboard Firstfibre. I think you're probably a little over the HP rating for that hull, but driven sensibly you should be okay. Assuming the transom is in good shape, of course! Looking forward to seeing your last pic, it didn't post for some reason?

Firstfibre, welcome aboard and nice find. Should be a fun little boat especially with that motor!!!!! Like Mark Siad a little over on the HP but you should be ok as long as you don't go crazy with it and as long as the transom is still solid.

Thanks guys, this boat is solid, I mean the only damage to the glass is where probably some down riggers were mounted, I mean not even stress cracks an this gel coat is coming out cherry red. I am going to try and fire the tower of power 1100 I don't want to do a bunch of work if the motor is broken but hell, I will put this Merc in my living room if it doesn't run, it's just a beautiful piece of 66 hardware, you could spend more on a painting.

Well opened it up and checked out the motor, I'm no expert in boats but a motorhead just the same. The wire from the distributor to coil is pulled out, I hear they are screwed in, would like more info before I start messing with it, I ordered 5' of Packard 440 wire so hope I can repair it. The wiring of the internal harness looks a mess, all wrapped with electrical tape, need to order or rebuild that, $150 bucks is a lot for just a simple part like that. Missing a lot of bolts, I am sure have shaken off so need to replace those. Shifts in and out of gear ok, turning the flywheel turns the prop shaft so not frozen up.
Bought another boat a 1967 Wacaca with a 40 Merc and all the trimmings so I have something to bolt the 1100 to that isn't a mouse nest.
