TOPIC: Greetings

Greetings 10 years 1 month ago #99769

I found this site after I recently purchased an old fiberglass boat. I have really enjoyed the site. It seems like you have a very nice community here.

I was laid off, and in need of a project to keep me busy. I came across a boat, motor, and trailer on the side of the road for $250. A few hours later it was in my driveway. It is a 1965 Larson All American 14ft with a 1960 Evinrude Lark 2 40hp.

The boat had been sitting for 15 years, but I was able to get it started in about a half hour. Once I knew the engine would run I got started on the work. I put a new interior in it, carpet seats etc. I went through the trailer, new electrical, new lights, new winch, winch post, spare tire and mount.

The motor was only running on 1 cylinder, but both tested out at 117 psi. I put in new bearing's, impeller, and seal kit in the lower unit. New coils, condenser's, and points. Oh yeah the gas tank was leaking so new tank, new battery and voltage regulator.

It has been a fun project, and everywhere I take it I get lots of comments. I had it out last week for a day on the Mississippi. I got a few looks from people. I think they were wondering how safe it was to be taking a 50 year old boat with a 55 year old motor out on the river.

I have a few things left to do on it, I should have done the plug wires when I had the flywheel off doh. I am gonna put a new thermostat in too just be on the safe side. All in all its is mostly done, and its a lot of fun. I am keeping my eye out for the next one, guess I got the bug now.

What a classic design. One of my favorites of all time. I grew up on a 63 "pink" Larson.... Enjoy

Thank you, to all of you who have responded, I appreciate it! unfortunately, I have not been able to spend much time thinking about boat's.

I relocated to the country, and got a new job out here. I am out by Glencoe MN.

I keep my eye out for boats wherever I go though. I know where there is a nice late 50's Lone Star aluminum with fins. It is a 17 foot,
I think, they're asking $1000.00, and it has a running 40 hp Johnson. It is a Late 50's or very early 60's motor. I also saw a very nice Larson, 1960 cabin cruiser, I have pics of the Larson.

I am not posting pics, or trying to sell any boats. I am just mentioning ones that I know are for sale that I think are cool.

Good luck everyone I hope to see some new boat porn, after people have been busy over the winter.

Welcome aboard. Nice looking boat. It's not necessarily how old the boat is that matters. It how well it was taken care of. Looks like it found a good home.
