TOPIC: American Pickers

American Pickers 10 years 1 month ago #99066

Am I the only one who saw the recent American Pickers episode where they purchased the Feathercraft lumi for $1500? seemed a bit high to me considering the condition, which is situation normal for the show. Regardless I still thought it was good to see exposure in an arena where old boats arent normally shown. Lance.

All the small town antiquers (what they called their self before Pickers was even thought of) hate that show.

They go to places and the people there say that want X amount because on the American Pickers Show they paid 1/2 of X and sold it for a big mark up.

The same thing has happen to storage wars. The group that we had coming to the sells at my brother in law and mine storage buildings are all but gone; because the ones that are looking for the big bucks as seen on TV ran the prices up.

Now that the newbies found that they cannot turn the big buck as seen on TV they are gone and the old group are weaken because of lost sales (for not having stock) and are trying to build their business back up, so auction prices are way down...bad for us in the long run.

Erwin (brother in law) had a group from TX storage wars that wanted to film at one of his auction and bring their TV buyers. HE would not let them.

Couple years ago they went to The Mantini Funeral Home in Ford City Pennsylvania. I know the Mantini's. Those building had a parking lot between them. They went on a side pic to an old fellows house afterwards. I guess they were told not to come back.

I had dealings last summer with the American Pickers. A advance crew got here and set about telling me what they would buy, how I was to respond and what I would have to take as a final offer. I was also told I would have to sign a contract telling me what I could say about the show and process they had. I told them to kiss my butt and get the hell off my property. Never heard from them again. Skip.

A good call Skip. I am tired to death of all these fake "reality" shows. They will fake anything to get a rating.

Its all staged BS. Interesting to watch but those prices? Come on! Probably make some sense if ya mute the noise, and turn away when when price shown...(why do ya think we named it the "Boob tube" decades ago!

ebay really brought the prices down....there are a few fools that will pay too much for items however on the whole I found that the prices are lower with less work looking....just like CL

A**hole pickers is making everyone that has an old item wanting more for it.

As one antiquer tells me...Let them clean it up rent a store front and sit on on it for a few months

I found with ebay that it may possibly work to pay more for something you really need than do the gas to try to find it, and time.

I saw that show. That would be a $200 boat around here.
They went to RI a couple years ago and pulled a '60's Triumph Bonneville out of a shed. Owner said it had been there for years. Mike Wolf gets it started in 3 kicks... Yeah, right. I'm friends with the guy they hired to get the bike running... 2 full days in his shop...

...As with ALL 'Reality' type shows, Pickers is of course 'scripted', at least as far as what they might pay for items...

I especially like this part:
Value: $1,500 (Says who? From whom? When?)
Picked 300
Profit" $1,200 (B.S.!)

How about driving all over the country in a Mercedes truck that gets about 8 miles/gallon downhill, meals, lodging, etc.? Then they spend $900 for crapola that they may/may not ever sell for more/less than they paid. There is NO WAY you can make enough money with that junk to cover the costs of acquisition, let alone profit.

And the girl they leave behind (whatever her name is)...I can just see if I brought that home to meet mother.

Then...there's Naked and Afraid with ZERO boobs, Jersey Shore with that Snooki sleazeball, Keeping up with the interracial Kardashians, ad nauseum. Whatever happened to FREE TV that required an antenna, had three channels and there was ALWAYS something on worth watching?

Homework assignment: Watch the movie, "Idiocracy."

Haha this topic is great! Nothing of value in it, actually I think I'm dumber now that jersey Shore was brought up.
I like American pickers, of course it's staged. I like it because of the stuff they have on and the history of those things that they tell.

we also like American pickers....and yes it is staged, but so are most tv shows....anyone really think andy and barney were real cops?? antique shops all across America have been boarded up for years...a lot of younger kids are throwing all the old stuff grandma and granddad gave them away because they don't see any value in it or think anyone wants it....anything that give that business a shot in the arm is ok with me...john

In case you did not know the girl in the shop is a burlesque dancer. Look for Danni from American Pickers on you tube.
